The department was established in 2014 to be one of the departments at the College of Engineering / University of Dhi Qar, working to qualify specialized staff in the field of oil and gas engineering within four academic years, and then the student is granted a bachelor’s degree in the science of oil and gas engineering.

The curriculum in the department covers oil and gas engineering, which includes engineering topics such as oil and gas well drilling, reservoir engineering, production engineering, gas technology and secondary oil recovery methods.

The Department is taught by a number of qualified teaching staff with PhD or Masters degrees in Petroleum Engineering.
